Episode 42: Luke McManus
I talk with Irish director Luke McManus of the Oscar longlisted-documentary, NORTH CIRCULAR.
The film is described as "exploring the history, music and streetscapes of the legendary North Circular Road that links some of Dublin's most beloved and infamous places" and if that sounds interesting, wait till you hear from the man behind it.
Luke and I talk about how he got his start in Dublin, the unique and beguiling way the film was shot, what advice he has for future documentarians, the role of film festivals and awards shows in indie filmmaking, and what's next for this brilliant filmmaker.
This episode is the first stemming from a conversation with Screen Ireland, the development agency for the Irish Film Industry, and I am ecstatic about the opportunity to highlight more Irish films on the show.
I'll roll the trailer for the film first-- and I put the YouTube link in the show notes. This is one where you'll get a minute and a half of great Irish music on the podcast but you'll need the video to fully appreciate it. And then please enjoy my conversation with the director Luke McManus.
