Straight 8 is a filmmaking challenge that invites anyone to make a film on a single cartridge of super 8mm film without editing or post production.

If you're reading this and haven't seen the Straight 8 films, go see them. And here are the five films we'll be talking about. I'll wait.

Ready? Shocked? I was -- by how amazing these films are. In this episode, we talk about the background of each of these filmmakers and their films; whether the medium of Straight 8 is well suited for horror and fantasy; the difficulty of sound production for these films; how they learned to use film and shoot without a net (Vasco calls it "planning to the extreme"); AI filmmaking; and the next projects for these visionary filmmakers.

I cannot wait for the 2025 Straight 8 competition, but until then, let's celebrate the original filmmaking that Straight 8 has given us for the last 25 years.
